Different Types of Islamic Modest Clothing



Modest Islamic clothing for women is the most decent apparel in the fashion industry. Nowadays, you can find a vast range of apparel, which has all the traditional features, but with a spunk or elegant avatar for modern yet traditional at heart Muslim women. Muslim women and men expatriates living all around the world, have contributed influentially in the field of art, fashion and science, are active followers of their traditions and faith. The young Muslim generation may have begun to adopt modern ways, but will never compromise on their culture, their religious faith and traditions.


Clothing style of Muslim women often includes apparel features for covering up with modesty. These clothing may vary in size, length and tailoring, depending on which part of the world it is made, or what kind of detailing it contains. From Turkey to Tanzania, Iran to the Saharan nations, there are several styles, designs and patterns for Islamic modest clothing. Irrespective of what the design is, the basic purpose remains the same, to respect the modesty of women. 


Some common types of Islamic clothing in UK include:

1.       Hijabs

Hijabs are head covering scarves for women. This short length cloth is folded and placed over the head. It is fastened right under the chin and its purpose is to hide the head and hair, leaving the face open. There are many Hijabs that also cover the front and end down to the waist, even covering the hands. Hijabs are sometimes called Tarhah and Shaylah. 

2.      Abaya

Abayas are worn over dresses, when women are out in public. This type of attire is commonly seen in Gulf countries. It is made from synthetic black fabric, which at times may even have embellishments, sequins and coloured embroidery. It covers a woman from head to toe and is complimented with a headscarf or a face veil. 


3.      Jilbab

Jilbab is another form of Abaya. It is more like a cloak or an over garment worn by Muslim women in public. The only difference between Abaya and Jilbab is that the latter are more fitted and available in a variety of colours and fabrics. Thus, Jilbab looks for fashionable and can be used like an overcoat. These are often paired with a headscarf.


Several modest online stores offer cheap dresses, hijabs, Abayas and more at reasonable prices. Now, Muslim women living in different parts of the world need not worry about finding their authentic traditional clothing.

  1. Not all the abayas are made of black fabric. Abayas in so many different colors, patterns and designs are now being shopped by Muslim women. And even these abayas are designed keeping in mind the modesty required in Islam.
